First-person testimony · Part III
Ramachandra Vaman Modak
Context
Ramachandra Vaman Modak appears in Chapter 33 of the Satcharitra. Narayan Motiram Jani of Nasik served under Modak before Baba — at his mother's first visit — told her his son should leave service and start independent business. Narayan opened the Anandashram boarding-house in Nasik, which thrived. Later, when a friend was stung by a scorpion and no Udi was at hand, Narayan stood before Baba's picture, took a pinch from the joss-stick ashes, and applied it as Udi — and the pain vanished.
About the 1936 statement
Modak's 1936 statement (page 204 of Part III) preserves the employer's-perspective witness of Narayan's transition.
