First-person testimony · Part I

Abdullah Jan

Witness:Muslim witness; 1936 statement
Source page:Section02 (page 89 of Sai Literature HTML edition)
Statement collected:1936, by B. V. Narasimha Swami

Context

Abdullah Jan's statement is one of several Muslim-witness testimonies preserved in Narasimha Swami's 1936 collection — a deliberate editorial choice. Baba's masjid (Dwarkamai) drew devotees of both communities throughout his 60-year Shirdi residence; the question of Baba's religious identity is addressed directly in Chapter 7 of the Satcharitra ("Hindu or Mahomedan?").

About the 1936 statement

Abdullah Jan's statement appears at page 89 of Part I. Like other Muslim witnesses (Abdul Baba, Abdul Rahim Rangari, Rajaballi Khoja, Adam Dalali — all in Part II), it preserves the masjid-side of Baba's ecumenical practice.
